After Paul’s explosion of verbs in the opening verses of Ephesians he writes,

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, (Ephesians 1:16 ESV)

What follows is Paul’s description of his prayer for the “saints who are in Ephesus.” But don’t miss what he says about his prayer for the Ephesians, “I do not cease…

Prayer for Paul is like water to the fish. He simply lives in it. He has an ongoing conversation with the Father. It is an intimacy that is real and penetrates every aspect of his life. Paul was a busy guy. He wrote 2/3 of the New Testament he planted scores of congregations. He traveled the known world. Paul was praying always but he wasn’t trapped inside a prayer closet.

No, Paul’s conversation with his heavenly Father was like the conversation of a toddler with her parents. It was ongoing, it never stopped. He was always in prayer and communing with the Father.

Surely God doesn’t care about the little things right? He has bigger things to worry about and respond to. Right?

One of the mos enduring metaphors for God in the Scriptures is that of Father. I can tell you as a father I desperately want to know everything that is going on my kids hearts and minds. I want to know the big stuff, but I also want to know about the little stuff. Why? Because I love them and I love them completely.

God loves us. He cares for us. He is the best of Fathers. Big and small everything in our hearts and minds matters to him.

What would it look like if you sought to have an ongoing conversation with your heavenly Father about little stuff in your life? How might your perspective change or shift?
